CONNEXIN
A group of proteoglycans that allow communication between cells. Connexins are structurally related transmembrane proteins that assemble to form vertebrate gap junctions. Gap junctions are found in skin cells like epithelial and basal cells and connects muscle cells to muscle cells. Connexins keep cells tightly together. They are essential for many physiological processes, such as the coordinated depolarization of cardiac muscles proper embryonic development, and the conducted response in microvasculature. The balance of collagen regulation through Connexin gap junctions forms a stability framework for cell physiology.
